Richard was referred to Audley as he was concerned about stories in the media concerning the deficit in an old final salary scheme that he was a member of. He had been talking to his existing advisor who told him that the best route would be to transfer his funds away in case the scheme went bust. We analysed Richard’s situation and spoke to his pension administrators. It became clear that although his scheme was in deficit, the employer was solvent and still in a position to fund the scheme in the future. By moving out of the scheme Richard would have been worse off so we advised him not to transfer. Richard is looking forward to taking his pension from the scheme next year.
